Despite the title's Wizard Of Oz connection, Barry (Nude Scrapbook) Mahon's 1969 adaptation of L. Frank Baum's The Marvelous Land Of Oz never became an annual television ritual. That's because audiences of all ages were appalled at the threadbare sets and charade-quality acting, flaws that the appearance of the Wogglebug couldn't assuage. It's a family affair: Mahon's wife Clelle wrote the script and son Chandos starred as Tip, a boy who's listlessly implicated in Oz internecine intrigue. Tip's evil stepmother Mombi is portrayed by Zisca Baum (no relation) of underground oddity The Invasion Of Thunderbolt Pagoda while the Tin Woodsman is Allen Joseph, who was later in both Raging Bull and Eraserhead.
