As with yesterday's entry, director William Rotsler's 1968 hippie horror Mantis In Lace was first released as a sexploitation feature. But the boxoffice for Lila was disappointing, so co-producers Harry Novak, Sanford White (Auntie's Secret Society), and Peter Perry Jr. (My Tale Is Hot) excised much of the T&A, cooked up a horror campaign with a creepier title lifted from Vic Lance's theme tune, and sold the result as psychedelic drive-in fodder. Red-headed Susan Stewart (The First Nudie Musical) is Lila, a go-go dancer on the Sunset Strip who freaks out on LSD, hallucinates fruit, and uses household tools for purposes for which they were not intended. Also with Pat Barrington (Monica's Thing), Steve Vincent from Suburban Pagans, and Russ Meyer drinking buddy Stuart Lancaster (Godmonster Of Indian Flats). Soft porn filmmakers Paul Hunt (The Harem Bunch) and Rotsler himself can be spotted as patrons of Lila's strip club.
